Christmas Tree Meringues
These Christmas tree meringue are so simple and make an excellent christmas treat! the meringues are piped with a painted piping bag giving the trees streaks of green colour and are baked at 100°C for extra crispness!
Make 30-35 Christmas trees
Ingredients:
2 medium egg whites
150g caster sugar
Pinch of salt
Green gel food colouring
Method:
Pre-heat the oven to 100°C.
Line a large baking tray with greaseproof paper.
Begin by whisking the egg whites with an electric whisk until they become frothy.
Add a pinch of salt and continue whisking until the egg whites hold stiff peaks.
Add the sugar one spoon at a time whisking on medium speed until all the sugar is incorporated.
Then turn up the speed and whisk on high until the meringue hold stiff glossy peaks.
Whisk is a little gel colouring to give the meringue a pale green colour.
Prepare the piping bag.
Fit a piping bag with a medium star nozzle.
Turn the piping bag inside out and using a brush, paint strips of green gel colouring in the bag.
Reverse the piping bag and spoon in the meringue.
Pipe the meringue onto the prepared baking tray.
Pipe down, stop, pipe a smaller blob, stop and pipe a final smaller blob peaked at the top to form three blobs on top of each other creating a three tier Christmas tree.
Place in the pre-heated oven for 50 minutes until the meringue are dry and crisp.
Allow to cool and serve.
These can we stored in an airtight container for a week.
